Transportation

The main campus of the Technische Universität München (TUM) is situated close to Munich central railway station and benefits from good public transport connections.

On foot

From the central station (Hauptbahnhof) to the TUM it is about 10 minutes on foot. Keep to the left on leaving the central railway station by the main exit and walk along Luisenstrasse. Cross Brienner Strasse at Königsplatz square and continue to Gabelsberger Strasse. Cross this road and keep to the right until the Hochschulstrasse turns off to the left under the bell tower of the TUM.

Travelling by public transport

Maps: [Suburban train (S-Bahn) and Subway (U-Bahn)(pdf)]  [Network map, city (pdf)] [Network map, region (pdf)]

If you prefer to take the Underground, take the U2 from the tube station in the basement of the central railway station (Hauptbahnhof) heading for Feldmoching and alight at Königsplatz or Theresienstraße (see map above)

Königsplatz: Leave by the Glyptothek exit, keeping to the left, and continue along Luisenstrasse until you reach Gabelsbergerstrasse. Cross this road and keep to the right until the Hochschulstrasse turns off to the left under the bell tower of the TUM.

Theresienstraße: At subway station Theresienstraße you will find an exit with sign Technische Universität Follow the sign upstairs and walk on the Theresienstraße across 2 streets. On the third one turn right into Arcisstraße and enter TUM at main entrance.

Connection with Munich Airport

The Airport is connected by rail (S-Bahn S ) via two lines (S1, S8)  [see map] with the net of suburban trains (S-Bahn), the subway (U-Bahn), and the central station (Hauptbahnhof) located in the city center. S1 follows the west route to the city center and takes 45 minutes to Hauptbahnhof. S8 follows the east route to the city center and takes 41 minutes to Hauptbahnhof.

When you arrive at Terminal 2 of Munich Airport follow the signs S (S in green-white) to Terminal 1. You will find the entrances to the train station in front of Terminal 1 and inside Terminal 1. Go downstairs.

Tickets can be bought at vending machines. Please, dont forget to stamp the ticket before entering the S-Bahn

Travelling by car

Due to the traffic and parking situation near the campus, we do not particularly recommend driving to the TUM. There are no visitors' parking lots at the main campus. Should you nevertheless decide to travel by car, please bear in mind that you need about 1 hour to travel from the outskirts of the city to the town centre during the rush hour.
